Established on the farm Fourie’s Kraal on the Southern boundaries of Ladysmith, Kwazulu-Natal. Constructed in the style of the colonial era with long overhanging roofs and generous verandahs, and set in an enchanting valley, Platrand Lodge has so much to offer: from luxury accommodation to conference and wedding facilities with impressive views and friendly service. There are loads of activities to keep you occupied during your stay such as hunting (in season), mountain biking, a gym and swimming pool, tennis, fishing, hiking and much more. The farm is 3680 ha fully fenced consisting of 70% bushveld. The monument consists of seven hands reaching up to the sky. The hands form a circle around a giant grave where the remains of 310 Boers were re-interred. Several of the men’s headstones can be seen embedded in the wall around the monument. The mountain ridge consisting of Platrand and Wagon Hill was occupied by the British forces during the siege of Ladysmith. Boer forces held positions to the east and the north of the town. Several skirmishes took place as the two armies tried to attack the other’s positions. With a menu that boast everything from good old red meat to something from the deep blue, you are sure to find something you fancy. You can choose to cosy up inside, or enjoy a late afternoon sundowner on the verandah while waiting for your food. There you can enjoy some sport on the television and/or big screen while enjoying any meal from our menu, and wash it down with a cold drink. Enjoying a game of pool to settle your meal will end your evening on a high note for sure. We are open for breakfast, lunch and supper; so do come join us anytime of the day for a lovely meal and a drink while overlooking Platrand Valley. The Boma braai area available to hunters sets the perfect African scene after a day of hunting. Tying the knot in such a wonderful setting is every couple’s dream. A garden wedding under African skies is a very popular option during summer time. The late African sunsets allows for beautiful colours, and the late afternoon sun lends a soft, golden shine to the whole valley. To spend your first night together, our Presidential Suite is available with all that is needed to make your wedding night as comfortable as possible. Although under a roof, the sides of the auditorium can be opened, still allowing for the feeling of openness, as if in nature. If a thunderstorm does threaten, the sides can be closed in a flash, ensuring you and all your guests are warm and safe from the elements. With both these options you and your guests will be enjoying a fantastic vista of the Platrand Valley. Once all the work is done, there is plenty to do in and around the Platrand Lodge. You can relax with your favourite drink on the veranda or in the garden, or if you still have energy left, going for a bike ride or a long walk in the veld are all things you can do unwind.
